This event was created in 1948 by Eleanor Lambert to raise funds and visibility for the Costume Institute of the Met; the focus on fashion has helped it become one of the most exclusive and most photographed in New York. This year it was co-chaired by designer Christopher Bailey, actress Sienna Miller and Vogue Editor In Chief Anna Wintour, and sponsored by Burberry. Held May 1, the gala raised more than $4.5 million.
